Kate Garraway husband Derek Draper hospitalised after taking ‘very serious’ turn

Kate Garraway husband Derek Draper has been hospitalised after taking a “very serious” turn for the worse.

The ‘Good Morning Britain’ host has taken a break from the ITV breakfast news programme and her Smooth radio show to be by her 54-year-old husband’s bedside in the hospital who is “seriously unwell” after his battle with COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic. This includes being in a coma and being unable to get out of bed, speak, or care for himself.

The 55-year-old broadcaster’s spouse “has been taken back to hospital this morning in a very serious condition,” a source reported.

“The family are very worried about him but Derek is in the best hands.

“Kate is by his side and is keeping it together as best she can. She’s a total professional and devoted to her work – both on Good Morning Britain and Smooth – but she had no choice but to step away this week to be there with him.

“This is an incredibly difficult time for her and their family.”

Kate recently highlighted how “exhausted” she was after driving her husband to and from doctor’s visits and needing continual care from medical specialists in two ITV programmes about their experience, “Finding Derek” and “Caring For Derek.”

She has previously discussed how the family manages and how their children, 12-year-old Billy and 16-year-old daughter Darcey, have “changed” in the more than two years since he tested positive for the virus, which took away his ability to talk.

Kate Garraway said: “I try to embrace life, especially the kids as we’ve had two and a half years of it.

“Their lives have changed and they need to do things.

“I’ve shown Derek pictures of Darcey in her prom dress, and now he can press one button and FaceTime her.
