Shamshera, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles, is being aggressively promoted by Yash Raj Films in the lead-up to its release. The producers fulfilled their promise on Friday by releasing a brand-new video starring Ranbir. The video is a piece of the RK Tapes project, which YRF launched on Thursday.
We get to see Ranbir Kapoor reflecting on his formative years and his onscreen heroes, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, in Episode 2. In the brief video, Ranbir can be seen sitting in Mumbai’s famous Liberty Cinema as images from Big B and SRK’s movies play in the background.

He begins by saying, “Main Amitabh Bachchan banna chahta tha. Jawaan hua, tab Shah Rukh Kha banna tha aur finally Ranbir Kapoor banna pada. (I wanted to become Amitabh Bachchan. When I got younger, I wanted to be Shah Rukh Khan, and then finally I became Ranbir Kapoor).”
Ranbir continued by revealing that he had a childhood obsession with Hindi movies and that he had a tendency to act in ways that were similar to his idols. He considered how, when he started acting, he wasn’t really selecting the kinds of movies his heroes did. Therefore, he said, “the 12-year-old Hindi film-obsessed Ranbir’s dreams” haven’t been realized yet.
He added that although his films are good, they won’t make him a national star, according to his late father, the legendary actor Rishi Kapoor. Ranbir continued by expressing his admiration for his heroes, Big B and SRK, and said, “If I can be even 2 percent of the heroes they are, then my life will be set.”
