Amber Heard surprised everyone by altering her legal team, sparking interest everywhere. In an effort to challenge the more than $10 million guilty verdict against her, the Aquaman actress fired her primary legal counsel and engaged a new team of counsel, Radar has confirmed.

The significant revelation was made public on Monday morning, more than two months after Heard was found guilty by a Virginia jury of defaming her ex-husband Johnny Depp and was sentenced to pay the 59-year-old actor $10.4 million in damages.

Both Heard and Depp’s legal teams have been working to submit appeals in relation to the case’s verdicts since the verdict was released on June 1.

Heard has now fired Elaine Bredehoft, her primary lawyer, and appointed David L. Axelrod and Jay Ward Brown of Ballard Spahr to handle her appeal.

“We view the jury’s ruling as the end of the beginning rather than the beginning of the finish when it comes to defending the fundamental right of freedom of speech, a representative for Heard told RadarOnline.com on Monday.

The spokeswoman continued, “A fresh court requires different representation, particularly as so much new material is now coming to light.”

Following Bredehoft’s resignation as Heard’s legal counsel, Axelrod and Brown further affirmed in a joint statement that they will defend the 36-year-old actress.

Axelrod and Brown said in a joint statement, “We welcome the opportunity to represent Ms. Heard in this appeal since it is a case with vital First Amendment consequences for every American.”

The two lawyers said, “We’re convinced the appellate court will apply the law correctly without regard to public opinion, reverse the decision against Ms. Heard, and reaffirm the fundamental principles of Freedom of Speech.”
