Princess Anne gave Diana a “scornful gaze”
The relationship between Princess Diana and her sister-in-law Princess Anne was not the best.
Before Diana got married to Prince Charles, the conflict between the two women “came to a head,” according to Ingrid Seward.
“The crisis came to an early head at the end of Ascot week in June 1981, barely a month before Diana’s marriage,” Ms. Seward wrote in her 1995 book “Prince Edward.”
Diana entered the nursery in the Queen’s Tower where Anne was settling in with her three-year-old son Peter and her four-week-old daughter Zara after sensing “Anne’s antipathy toward her and attempting to ingratiate herself.”
Diana bows respectfully and says, “Ma’am, how nice to see you.”
“Anne despises pretense even when she is at her finest.
She had absolutely no time for it when she was juggling two young children.
She looked up at Diana and looked right through her, Seward said.
Diana left the room when she felt Anne’s disdain’s “searing intensity” in person.
The Princess Royal, according to Ms. Seward, “was indifferent to Diana from the very beginning.”
She continued, “She regarded the woman with withering disdain, who by marriage to her elder brother would have been her Queen.
She labelled her a “silly girl,” Ms. Seward continued.
