The Queen responds wisely, after chefs discover an “unexpected guest” in the salad
After discovering a dead slug in her salad, Queen Elizabeth responded to the palace cooks in a humorous way.
The Queen and her late husband Prince Philip reportedly kept a notepad next to their plates so they could provide criticism to the chefs, according to a former servant.
Charles Oliver described the monarch’s remarkable reaction when she discovered a “unexpected guest” on her plate in his book Dinner at Buckingham Palace, according to The Mirror.
“Once, the footmen found the dead carcass of a slug on a torn-off top sheet,” the former servant writes.
The Queen had written: “I found this in the salad—could you eat it? “, he continued, on the note, he said.”
In the meantime, Angela Kelly, who served as the Queen’s dresser while employed by the Royal Family, commented on the monarch’s hilarious sense of humor in her book The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser, and the Wardrobe.
Kelly said that on April Fool’s Day she had purchased a plush Kookaburra bird to horrify Queen by revealing that it was a dead one.
Kelly described how she later set the bird on the royal suite’s balcony.
The Queen yelled, “It’s a kookaburra!” as she turned to face the exterior. When I went to open the cage, she yelled, “No!” loudly. Avoid doing it! It will take flight! said Kelly.
“I respectfully informed her Majesty that it was deceased as I turned to face her. She was startled when I approached her holding open arms, and she realized I had been playing with her when she snatched the bird from my hands.”
Kelly went on: “April Fool’s Day She responded to my cheeky grin with the simple phrase, “You’re fired!”
“Her Majesty asked His Royal Highness [Prince Philip], “Do you realize what she has just done to me?” as I was howling with laughter. I’m in Angela’s hands!””
