In addition to the several live-action remakes Disney has in store, Peter Pan & Wendy, another cherished classic, will make its premiere in 2023.

The first clip from the studio’s next live-action version debuted exclusively at the D23 Expo, where Disney fans had congregated to get an early look at the upcoming Disney productions.

The film, starring Alexander Molony as Peter Pan and Ever Anderson as Wendy, is based on J.M. Barrie’s 1953 novel, Peter Pan, about a boy who never grows up and the kids he abducts to the fantastical country of Neverland. Jude Law plays Captain Hook, Alyssa Wapanatahk plays Tiger Lily, and Yara Shahidi plays Tinkerbell in the ensemble.

While the poster unveiling did not tell too much, the cast did give some insight into what to anticipate from this adaptation. Peter and Wendy will be treated “equally” in the movie, according to Anderson.

Jude Law talked about donning the recognizable “hook” for his role. “We put a lot of effort into the hook; there were numerous iterations of the hook until the ironmonger found the perfect one. And I was extremely fortunate to be welcomed and included in the process of ironing out those minor nuances. I mean, those minute things are what will give this entire article color, depth, and a fresh perspective.

Law also revealed that the script will dive into the period of time when Captain Hook and Peter Pan were buddies. We tried to understand their past, when they were buddies, and delved a little deeper into their backstory, continued Law. “Adding that knowledge of the significance of Hook’s fame was wonderful to layer in.”

David Lowery co-wrote the screenplay for Peter Pan & Wendy with Toby Halbrooks. Producers include Joe Roth and Jim Whitaker. The movie, which is set for release in 2023, was made by Walt Disney Pictures, Whitaker Entertainment, and Roth/Kirschenbaum Films.
