Shakira is finally talking about the end of her relationship with Gerard Piqué. The famous singer talked about her breakup in an interview with the media. Even though Shakira and Gerard were together for 12 years and had two kids together, Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, they never got married. When they announced their breakup in a joint statement in June, many people were shocked.

During the interview, Shakira said that breaking up with Gerard was “the darkest hour of my life” and “extremely hard” because they had been together for so long. The Colombian singer’s life got worse after her very public breakup.

She shared, “I’ve tried to conceal the situation in front of my kids. I try to do it and to protect them because that’s my number one mission in life.” She added, “But then they hear things in school from their friends or they come across some disagreeable, unpleasant news online, and it just affects them, you know?”

Shakira also said that the scandalous headlines in the tabloids had turned her relationship with Gerard, which used to feel “sacred,” into “something vulgarised and cheapened.” She made it clear that she didn’t want to talk about Gerard’s new relationship with Clara Chia, and she also chose not to talk about the claims that he cheated on her. Her only focus right now seems to be on her two kids and how well she and her husband are raising them together. She said, “Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children.”
