Dame Judi Dench has not intention to quit acting

Recently, Dame Judi Dench disclosed that she cannot read or write because of her advanced macular degeneration.

According to a report, in a new interview with BBC’s Louis Theroux, the actress was frank about her health difficulties and conceded that it’s bad, but she stated she won’t be retiring “soon.”

“I don’t want to retire. I’m not doing anything much at the moment because I can’t see,” remarked the Academy Award-winning actor.

The Skyfall star stated, “It’s bad, bad enough. Bad enough in that you’re quite fuzzy.”

Dench noted that she had taught herself “a new way of learning” after being diagnosed with AMD, a common illness that affects your central vision.

“I have a photographic memory so a person saying to me, ‘This is your line’ I can do that. And I have many people who can help me. Nevertheless, I realize that I need to know where it is on the page. I’ll teach myself a way, I know I will. So long as I don’t trip overdoing it,” the 87-year-old explained.

Dench also revealed that she recently asked her partner David Mills to cut up her food at an important dinner since she was unable to see it.

The Belfast actress stated, “He cut it up and handed something to me on a fork and that’s the way I ate it.”

Dench stated that she developed this ailment following a “frightful fall” at home earlier this year.

“I tripped over the carpet, and there was nobody in the house and I was lying on the ground unable to get up for half an hour,’ she said.

The James Bond actress admitted that maintaining her  “independence is becoming very difficult as she grows older”.

In the meantime, her spouse Mills, and her daughter Finty Williams reside nearby.
