King Charles III almost avoided death while raising a renowned flagship, the Mary Rose. According to a new documentary.

The Mary Rose, King Henry VIII’s flagship for 34 years, sank in 1545 after a battle with a French fleet. The debris was discovered in the depths of the Solent in 1971 and excavated in October 1982.

The late Queen’s oldest son, Britain’s future King, Charles, was there to see the massive effort. However, it was there that he barely evaded what might have been a catastrophic disaster, according to sources in a new documentary.

During the operation, a section of the massive Tog Mor crane (Gaelic for “great lift”) and the barge crashed near Charles. He was preparing to inspect the ship closely when it crashed, almost shattering the hull of the Mary Rose when the frame broke apart near where the then-Prince of Wales was standing.

The operation was seen by Royal Engineer Jack Frost, who recounted how everything became quiet as the frame broke apart.
