Thousands of individuals have signed an online petition advocating for the abolition of the royal title “Prince of Wales” since King Charles bequeathed the title to his son Prince William.

According to the UK’s Daily Express, the Change.org petition was started by Trystan Gruffyd of Pontypridd, Wales, with the title “End the ‘Prince of Wales’ title out of respect for Wales.”

According to the journal, he listed the petition just after King Charles III, who had held the title of Wales since 1958.

In two weeks, almost 36,000 people have signed the petition.

According to the UK news channel, Gruffyd believes his initiative has started a national discussion about the space occupied by the Prince of Wales title.
