Bryan Fuller admits that Mads Mikkelsen gave fans “Daddy Issues”

Creator of Hannibal Bryan Fuller is aware that viewers had “daddy issues” with Mads Mikkelsen’s portrayal of Hannibal Lecter.

One of the executive producers of Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror acknowledged the impact of casting Mikkelsen as the cannibalistic serial murderer, made famous by Anthony Hopkins’ Oscar-winning portrayal in The Silence of the Lambs, in just four words in response to a fan tweet.

The charming, charismatic, and extremely bright psychiatrist with a passion for the flavour of human flesh was portrayed in Hannibal by the Danish actor from The Hunt and Another Round.

Hannibal is based on the people in Thomas Harris’ suspense books, and it’s primarily on his passionate relationship with FBI profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy).

Following the passing of Abigail Hobbs’ biological father, they play a twisted and symbolic paternal role in her life.

Fuller responded on Twitter with the words “YES, I AM AWARE” in response to a fan’s concern about whether he was aware that his casting decision caused some people to have “daddy issues.”

Even though Hannibal, an NBC television series, had favourable reviews and developed a devoted cult following, it only ran for three seasons, from 2013 to 2015, before being cancelled.

The third and final season ended in an uncertain manner, with Will accepting his own darkness and witnessing the two men fall off a cliff.

Fuller previously admitted to regretting not recording a last kiss sequence between the two in an interview with the EW.

Fans have claimed that Fuller is “queer baiting” his audience with the contentious connection between the two main characters, although he has refuted this claim.

It felt true about someone who once classified as heterosexual having a complex, deep connection with someone of the same sex, Fuller said in an interview with IndieWire about the pair, who have been branded by the fandom as “murder spouses.”

On Twitter, the show’s creator urged followers to sign a petition in June asking the major studios to finish the unfinished Hannibal saga.

The show’s revival in popularity after it started to stream on Netflix prompted rumours about how it might be renewed for a fourth season.

But that was more than two years ago, and since then the programme has been taken off of the major streaming service and placed on Hulu instead.

The entire series is also available on Amazon Prime Video, and the last season is still available on NBC.com.

The possibility of a fourth season of Hannibal has been abandoned, but fans will be pleased to learn that Fuller and Mikkeslen will reunite for the upcoming horror film Dust Bunny.
