Asjha Cooper played Dr. Vanessa Taylor on NBC’s Chicago Med, pursues a new profession in the Philippines, Cooper will leave the show.

Cooper’s resignation was made known in the most recent episode and follows the recent departures of a number of prominent actors from the long-running medical drama.

Cooper, who played Dr. Taylor for two seasons (starting in Season 6, when she began working as a first-year intern at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center), revealed her decision to leave the programme in a conversation with her on-screen mother.

In the episode, Dr. Taylor informed Maggie Campbell, née Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett), her birth mother, that she would be accepting a position in the Philippines.

She declared, “This is my calling. In a prior episode, Dr. Taylor and Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) were discovered buying medications for the hospital without a prescription since supplies were short.

Barrett, Cooper’s co-star and on-screen mother, posted a farewell message on Twitter.

“She’s going! A New Journey Begins! Will miss this one!”

A brief video of Barrett’s character touching hands with Dr. Taylor for three seconds was also uploaded to her social media accounts.

After a number of other actors, notably Brian Tee, left the series, Cooper left Chicago Med.

According to an earlier Deadline source, Tee, an original cast member who has played Dr. Ethan Choi for the show’s eight seasons, will make one final cameo in the ninth episode of Season 8 airing on December 7.

However, Tee won’t be entirely leaving the show because he’ll be back in Episode 16 to make his directorial debut.

While Kristen Hager, better known to viewers as Dr. Stevie Hammer, made a permanent exit from the show in March after announcing that she and her husband Matt Jones were expecting their first child (as documented on Hager’s Instagram), Sarah Rafferty, who played transplant surgeon Dr. Pamela Blake in Season 7, left the show on October 12.

Along with Rafferty, Guy Lockard, who played Dr. Dylan Scott, also quit the production.

Chicago Med centres on the personnel of the Emergency Department of the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center (ED).

Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Yaya DaCosta, Jeremy Shouldis, Torrey DeVitto, Lorena Diaz, Courtney Rioux, and Dominic Rains are among the actors who have appeared in the eight-season drama since its debut in November 2015.

As the third instalment of Wolf Entertainment’s One Chicago series, which also includes Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and the brief lived Chicago Justice, Chicago Med is created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead.

NBC presently broadcasts Chicago Med on Wednesdays.
