Prequel series The Winchesters and Walker: Independence have both received positive ratings for The CW, as we had predicted.

But sadly, it doesn’t seem like either production will be able to accommodate devoted viewers who tune in week after week hoping for more episodes beyond each show’s initial 13-episode season.

According to soures, The CW has no plans to buy further episodes of either programme, so they are likely to keep their current half-season order.

Even with the network’s recent budget cuts, it seems improbable that either shows will be cancelled.

However, there has been no indication on whether either project would be given the go-ahead for a Season 2.

The CW has made significant adjustments to its programming since Nexstar Media Group acquired it back in July.

Press releases have recently been flooded with announcements about the end of beloved scripted shows like Riverdale, The Flash, Nancy Drew, and Stargirl in order to make room for new material.

The CW wants to steer clear of teen-focused shows and move in the direction of multi-cam sitcoms and procedural dramas in order to appeal to their older audience, who were previously reported to account for the majority of their viewership ratings.

The choice was also made to further reduce budget expenses because scripted drama shows are often the most expensive to produce.

The Winchesters and Walker: Independence, two prequel shows that debuted on The CW in October, have been enormous successes for the network.

The Winchesters relates the tale of how John Winchester (Drake Rodger) and Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) came to be the titular family in the early 1970s.

Mary presents John to the group together with the rest of the crew, including Carlos (Jojo Fleites) and Latika, who comes from a long line of demon hunters (Nida Khurshid). John and Mary start dating as they battle demons and delve into family secrets, setting them on the way to creating the Supernatural family that we all know and love.

The Winchesters and Walker: Independence both have Supernatural alumni at the helm—Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively—even though their individual stories don’t share the same mythos.

Padalecki has starred in the first three seasons of Walker, the follow-up to Independence, which was his first show that he truly committed to since leaving Supernatural.

Because of the original show’s success and the fans’ obvious want for more, a series detailing how the Walker family came to reside in the named Texas town was created.

The programme, which features Katherine McNamara as Abby Walker, reveals Abby’s motivation for emigrating from Boston to the American West; spoiler alert: it involves murder.

The popularity of both programmes suggests that renewal news will soon be released. The CW simply cannot discontinue all of its scripted teen shows, can it?

We predict that even if viewers won’t receive full first seasons of The Winchesters or Walker: Independence, the stories will continue the following year. Both shows have the potential of intriguing appearances.
