Rachel True returns in fan favorite role in ‘Half Baked 2’
Half Baked 2, which has been in the works for a few years, is finished and on its way to the cult fans of the original Dave Chapelle-starring Half Baked, which debuted in 1998.
According to reports that the project’s filming, which was done entirely in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is finished.
Additionally, according to the rumour, a number of new actors will be joining the cast of the sequel, including Rachel True, who played the beloved Mary Jane.
The new cast for the sequel includes Dexter Darden (Maze Runner), Moses Storm (Unfriended), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Ash Santos (True Story), Joel Courtney (The Kissing Booth), and David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy).
Producers hope to tap more deeply into the original stoner comedy’s cult appeal with this new group of youthful talent.
Even though Chappelle won’t be playing Thurgood Jenkins again, his character still sort of exists in this sequel as the focus of the narrative is his son JR (Darden) and his buddies as they experiment with marijuana use.
The group of close friends, which consists of JR, Miles (Storm), and Cori (Young), are trying to raise money for Bruce (Courtneyburial )’s expenses after he passed away after “smoking the most potent joint in the world.”
According to Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Universal 1440 Entertainment, the producers are hoping that the sequel will continue the popularity of the first film.
“We are thrilled to announce the next chapter in Half Baked, with new characters and a hilarious story that is sure to satisfy followers of the original film while attracting a whole new generation of fans. Expressing anticipation over the sequel, Ross added; “we can’t wait to show audiences where the story goes from here.”
Despite receiving poor reviews and barely breaking even on its $8 million budget, the original movie gained cult appeal after receiving a second DVD release.
The main reason for that unanticipated success was the professional breakthrough of the show’s star, Chappelle, whose followers were willing to consume anything with his name on it after his spectacular ascent to stardom.
Despite the classic’s success as a sleeper smash, Chappelle is unimpressed, claiming that the plot’s enormous potential was destroyed by the film’s conclusion, which differed from what the producers had originally anticipated.
Harland Williams, another member of the original ensemble, will also appear in the sequel. Frankie Muniz and comedian Jeff Ross both make special appearances.
The film was directed by Michael Tiddes and its narrative was written by Justin Hires (21 Jump Street) (Sextuplets). As producer, Griff Furst was involved.
Half Baked 2’s release date has not yet been determined, but producers anticipate a global non-theatrical release early in the following year.
