Randall Park & Melissa Fumero talks about Blockbuster

Netflix actors Randall Park and Melissa Fumero are exposing how realistic the series’ set was down to the last detail in honour of the Blockbuster premiere.

The tape is being rewinded by Blockbuster.

The manager and employees of the final Blockbuster Video shop in the world struggle to find their place in a high-tech society in the Netflix sitcom, which debuted on Nov. 3.

Additionally, the actors Randall Park and Melissa Fumero said that walking onto the set was like entering a physical time warp.

Exclusively making fun of the carpet, Fumero told E! News, “The carpet was exactly the right amount of nasty.” Even the signage, according to Park, “was askew just the perfect amount.”

These period-appropriate details, which included those with the well-known “Be Kind. Rewind.” video rental slogan, weren’t just for show. Everyone who entered the false store had an engaging experience, according to Fumero and Park.

Fumero remarked, “It was simply incredibly entertaining for me to watch the faces of everyone that walked on who were like, “Oh, wow.” They were returned right away.

“Stepping onto that set for the first time was like strolling into my neighbourhood Blockbuster,” continued Park, calling the experience “trippy.”

But not everyone was able to enjoy those same happy memories again. The teenage daughter of the store’s landlord (J.B. Smoove), played by Kamaia Fairburn, is a little too young to remember the days of video rentals, so Park and Fumero did their best to describe what it was like to enter a Blockbuster to her.

Fumero remembered telling her, “This was a thing. It’s difficult to really articulate what it was about—like what made it enjoyable, because I think that’s the part they get hung up on. How was going to a store and choosing out a movie exciting? “This started the weekend—going and picking out your movies with your family for the weekend.”

Netflix now offers the ability to stream Blockbuster.
