“Retribution” casts “Stranger Things” and “Succession” stars
The newest action movie starring Liam Neeson is on its way to Lionsgate. ‘Retribution’, featuring Liam Neeson as a businessman who becomes entangled in a mystery that endangers the lives of his family, has been acquired by the movie distributor for North America and India.
Nimród Antal, who directed Predators, is the film’s director, and Neeson and Studiocanal are reuniting with Lionsgate after their previous collaboration on the 2019 release of Cold Pursuit.
Neeson’s involvement in the movie was first revealed in late 2020, marking a reunion with the Picture Company’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman as well as director Jaume Collet-Serra, who had worked on Neeson’s previous movies Unknown, Non-Stop, and The Commuter.
Since then, Matthew Modine, Jack Champion, Lilly Apell, Arian Moayed, and his former Schindler’s List coworker Embeth Davidtz have joined Liam Neeson in the cast.
The production team is completed by Juan Sola, who serves as producer, and Vaca Films, the company that produced El Desconocido, the Spanish movie on which it is based, who serves as executive producer.
Retribution is a revenge thriller with a plot that is excellently suited for a Liam Neeson movie. The movie centres on Matt Turner (Neeson), an American businessman in Berlin who finds himself in a kind of Speed-like race against time to save both his children and himself.
Turner receives a call from an ominous number while he is driving to the school to drop his children off, telling him that his car is equipped with an explosive device.
While trying to understand what is happening and who is making the threats, he is compelled to obey the directions given by the enigmatic caller in order to prevent the bombs from detonating.
Neeson has starred in a number of action thrillers, including The Grey, The A-Team, and The Marksman.
He has also received accolades for a number of other parts, most notably that of Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars series and Oskar Schindler in the aforementioned Schindler’s List.
He will soon be seen with Kerry Condon in Robert Lorenz’ In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Antal, on the other hand, just directed two episodes of Stranger Things Season 4.
He is renowned for directing enjoyable, guilty-pleasure movies like Vacancy, Armored, and most recently The Whiskey Bandit in addition to Predators.
Both Neeson and Antal received great acclaim from Lionsgate Executive Vice President of Co-Productions and Acquisitions Eda Kowan, who was quoted as saying in a statement:
We are thrilled to be working once again with our friends at STUDIOCANAL and The Picture Company to bring this new Liam Neeson action-thriller to audiences. There’s no star who connects with audiences quite the way Liam does, and this film has him at his best. Nimród Antal keeps the tension ratcheted for an instant Liam Neeson classic.
