Diego Luna opens up about which ‘Andor’ scene made him cry

Search of Cassian Andor’s sister ended? Diego Luna disagrees
Tony Gilroy gave Rogue One: A Star Wars Story viewers a rare glimpse at Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) childhood before the rebellion when Andor made its initial debut back in September.
The first three episodes introduced Cassian’s never-ending hunt for his long-lost sister in addition to thoroughly developing the character and exploring all of his personality’s dimensions. But now that Season 1 is over, has that hunt finally come to an end?
Young Kass (Antonio Via) was separated from his sister on Kenari by a series of events until Maarva (Fiona Shaw) and Clem Andor (Gary Beadle) discovered him and were compelled to remove him from Kenari in order to save his life.
The rest of Cassian’s life was spent feverishly trying to find the ghost of his sister despite having a pretty good existence with his newly discovered parents.
He did this by following dead ends and fruitless leads. In the second part of the season, Maarva advises Cassian to give up looking for his sister because she is gone and he will never find her.
Cassian is then taken to Narkina 5 and imprisoned there under false pretences, which launches his career in the resistance.
There doesn’t seem to be much room for Cassian’s hunt for his sister to continue, as the climax places him on a route that will lead to his eventual death in Rogue One. especially because Season 2’s three-episode arcs will each cover a whole year’s worth of events.
Steve Weintraub got the chance to talk with Gilroy and Luna in advance of the series finale to hear their last thoughts on whether or not Cassian’s search has ended.
In contrast to Luna, Gilroy’s response was a little more vague, with the show’s creator stating that it was yet “to be determined.”
Despite this, he continued to discuss how viewers may not have accepted every assertion made by characters as fact, saying, “People frequently don’t believe what characters on shows say.
People were commenting, “Oh, Luthen’s monologue means something else,” and “This means something else.” Maarva’s kinda telling the truth. I’d say TBD, I don’t want to close the door on it.”
Although we might not see him continuing to look for his sister, Luna’s response suggests that even though we don’t see him physically looking for her, his emotional involvement in that search hasn’t necessarily ended just because the insurrection is at his door. As said by Luna:
I don’t think it’s ever over. I don’t think it’s over in Rogue One, because I see that as one thing. It’s like the feeling, it’s one of those things that kind of follow every decision you make, or never letting [go] anymore, not again.
That kind of thing. And I think that’s behind the decision of that last mission, that suicide mission in Rogue One. That’s for her. That’s for Maarva, that’s for his people, for his community.
I love the arc that Tony has built, and the arc ends in Rogue One, not in Season 2. I think it’s going to be quite amazing to watch Rogue One after you see Season 2.
I think you’ll see a different film. For sure, you’ll understand the character from a different perspective, and you’ll be with him in a different way.
Many scenes from Rogue One have already been contextualized in the first season of Andor, both by highlighting the events in Cassian’s life that led him to become the battle-weary martyr he is in the beginning of the movie and by more closely tying Jyn Erso’s (Felicity Jones) emotional arc in the movie to the journey that Cassian takes in the series.
Tony Gilroy indicated in a previous interview that Cassian and the rebels will travel to Yavin in Season 2, which offers up a wealth of intriguing story possibilities.
Yavin served as a hub for the revolt and could be used to introduce a number of other famous rebels, such as those who appeared in Rogue One.
The second and last season’s filming started earlier this week, and it will go through the end of the summer of 2023. Despite the fact that Episode 13 will take place a year after the end, rest assured that Gilroy has no plans to kill anyone off-screen.
Along with Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, Duncan Pow, and Stellan Skarsgrd—who was the first to confirm that the series would return for a second season—will all make appearances in Andor’s second season.
This week, Kyle Soller was filming on location, so Denise Gough will certainly repeat her role. It appears that Adria Arjona, Joplin Sibtain, Elizabeth Dulau, Faye Marsay, or Varada Sethu will also appear when the series resumes as the whole core characters survived the uprising on Ferrix.
Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios, a new director team, will tackle 3-episode arcs in Season 2, with scripts written by returning writers Dan Gilroy and Beau Willimon as well as newcomer Tom Bissell.
Andor’s complete debut season is currently available to stream on Disney+.
