Studio Ghibli short “Zen – Grogu and the Dust Bunnies” will release
It has been confirmed that the reported Grogu-focused Disney+ short is, in fact, the enigmatic project between the famed Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm, and it will be released tomorrow!, after two days of rumours.
This evening, Disney+ made known that Zen – Grogu and the Dust Bunnies will only be available to stream there. The short film was created as a surprise for fans and premiered in celebration of The Mandalorian’s third anniversary!
The endeavour is historic in and of itself because it is the first time the renowned Japanese animation company has collaborated with Lucasfilm.
Ludwig Göransson, who also composed the music for The Mandalorian, directed the hand-drawn, animated short.
Speculation quickly focused on whether the project might have been connected by the critically acclaimed series Star Wars: Visions, which saw the franchise teaming up with animation studios from all over the world for the very first time.
The news first broke earlier this week via an ominous video shared by Studio Ghibli on Twitter. Although this partnership between Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm may not be for Visions, it is a historic coming together of two major creative organizations.
When the titular, helmet-clad gunslinger first appeared on screen in The Mandalorian, the first Disney+ series from a galaxy far, far away, it shook the globe.
The series, which was created by Jon Favreau, stars Pedro Pascal as “Mando,” also known as Din Djarin, who suddenly adopts Grogu as his foundling after being bribed to kidnap him for someone.
It will be interesting to see if Studio Ghibli’s short is a stand-alone tale about Grogu getting into mischief or if it takes place amid the events of The Mandalorian.
The Book of Boba Fett, starring Temuera Morrison and Ming Na Wen, and the impending Ahsoka series are two spin-off series that The Mandalorian has inspired over the course of its two seasons (which stars Rosario Dawson).
Although it’s unknown if Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will have a direct connection to the events of The Mandalorian, it is reported to take place within the same time period as the upcoming series by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
The Mandalorian has no specific release date, but Zen – Grogu and the Dust Bunnies will start streaming tomorrow only on Disney+.
