The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 5: Reveals June & Luke’s decision
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale aired this week, and it was a powerful episode. After the threat in Toronto increased, June and Luke are forced to make a difficult decision in this episode.
While Aunt Lydia continues to collaborate with Janine, Commander Lawrence in Gilead solidifies his reputation. The tenth and last episode of the season, “Safe,” is broken down in the accompanying inside look.
Elisabeth Moss (June) repeats at the beginning of the clip how Toronto has changed from being a haven for Gilead refugees to a place that is almost as hostile to them.
Everyone is not safe, but June is particularly unsafe. The end result is a serious assault on June. Nick’s fervent conviction that Commander Lawrence was behind the attack is explained by Max Minghella (Nick).
Despite his denial, Lawrence’s earlier experience where he lost all empathy for June does little to bolster his assertion. As a result, Nick is prompted to take further action, particularly by accepting a bargain from Tuello, regarding the Americans.
Bruce Miller, the executive producer, elaborates on how the attack makes June and Luke understand they are seriously in danger.
They have no choice but to flee after the attack and Luke’s defensive response resulted in a Canadian’s death.
Moss and executive producer Eric Tuchman discuss how it’s simple to overlook negative change over time, while it’s happening, until things are suddenly bad while pointing out June and Luke’s regrets over leaving Boston.
Miller and Moss both mention how the episode makes use of current events. Particularly in the final act when all the American refugees are in the train station, Miller wanted it to reflect on both history and the present.
Similar to this, Moss, who directed the episode, based her choices on research into the Ukrainian crisis. The two discuss the last scene briefly before they part ways.
Without Luke, June and Nichole boarded the train without incident. When June hears a baby scream in the episode’s closing moments, she realizes that it is Noah and that Serena is also on the train. Despite their turbulent past, June and Serena both share the feelings of confusion, fear, and loneliness.
The Handmaid’s Tale is an adaptation of the same-named novel by Margaret Atwood. Miller executive produces the show, which is made by MGM Television, together with Moss, Tuchman, Warren Littlefield, Yahlin Chang, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Rachel Shukert, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark, and Kim Todd. Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, O-T Fagbenle, Ann Dowd, Madeline Brewer, Genevieve Angelson, Sam Jaeger, Bradley Whitford, and Amanda Brugel are additional Season 5 cast members.
The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 is currently available for watching on Hulu.
Although a release date has not yet been set, the show will return for one last season.
