Al Roker spends Christmas with his family following hospital stay
Al Roker unmistakably has the festive spirit as he spends Christmas with his family following hospital stays.
On Christmas Day, the weatherman for the “Today” show, who has recently been in and out of the hospital, uploaded a family photo.
The photograph shows Roker, 68, his wife, Deborah Roberts, 62, and their two children, Leila, 24, and Nick, 20, seated at a table covered in food.
Courtney Roker, 35, and her husband Wesley Laga were also seen in the picture, which was taken. They were all dressed in identical bright-green pyjamas with “Peanuts”-themed graphics.
In another image, the family’s rescue dog Pepper could be seen dressed similarly. He captioned the image, “From our family to yours, #merrychristmas.”
The family was having a Christmas meal of bacon, arugula, gruyere, frittata, and homemade cinnamon buns, according to a previous post by Roker.
After two consecutive hospital stays, the amiable television personality practically returned to the “Today” show earlier this month.
The weatherman admitted to his co-anchors, “I’m not going to deny this: It’s been a tough slog.” Even though I’ve undergone surgery before, this one has been the hardest.
Roker admitted that after losing muscular mass in the hospital, he experienced “a certain level of weakness.”
“I regularly attend physical therapy and occupational therapy sessions. I only need to regain my strength, he continued. “I’m doing fine. I felt powerful. I feel a little bit better every day.
Roker gave an explanation for his absence from the NBC morning show in November.
He posted on Instagram, “Last week I was brought to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg that sent some clots into my lungs. “I am extremely blessed to be receiving excellent medical care and on the road to recovery after some medical whack-a-mole,” the patient said.
Sadly, he had to be readmitted less than 24 hours after being discharged from the hospital.
For the first time in 27 years, Roker had to step down from his role as co-host of the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” due to bad health. He also missed the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
The daytime Emmy winner has struggled with several medical conditions throughout the years, including hip replacement surgery and carpal tunnel syndrome.
The TV host revealed to viewers that he had prostate cancer in November 2020 and that, while being diagnosed “early,” the condition was “a touch aggressive.”
