Frank Grillo plays an ex-special forces operative in ‘Little Dixie’
Frank Grillo (Avengers: Endgame), who previously played the head of the Lamborghini family in Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend, portrays a disturbed former special forces operator who is attempting to protect his daughter, in a new trailer for Little Dixie.
The latest gritty action-thriller from Candyland director John Swab puts Grillo in a pickle when a deal between a dangerous drug kingpin and a dishonest governor goes awry, putting his family in peril.
Little Dixie (Sofia Bryant), his small daughter and the only remaining source of hope in his life, is something he will stop at nothing to protect.
The trailer features a tense atmosphere throughout thanks to some menacing background music, especially as governor Richard Jeffs (Eric Dane) and drug kingpin Raphael “Cuco” Prado (Beau Knapp) get ready for their encounter.
An accord is supposed to be facilitated by Grillo’s Doc Alexander, but when the police arrive, everything falls apart. The governor seems to have set this up to destroy the cartel.
The fact that Jeffs drags Doc into the conflict and makes him a target after failing to mediate a fair settlement between the parties is even worse for Doc.
Now that the scary Cuco is hunting his family, Doc’s life is going to be a living hell based on his ruthless, methodical approach.
As Doc tells the cartel to keep away from his daughter lest he use his unique set of skills to take them out, the trailer then enters Taken territory.
That warning is disregarded by Cuco, who then abducts Little Dixie to make a point. It sets up a decisive confrontation in which the distraught Doc will use every weapon at his disposal to defend the one thing in his life that is worth protecting in an effort to win back his daughter. It appears that in his pursuit of vengeance, he will go to the same savage lengths, culminating in a chainsaw rev.
In his feature films, Grillo is gradually developing into a favourite of Swab’s. Their third collaboration, Little Dixie, is followed by a fourth, One Day as a Lion, a drama starring J.K. Simmons. The MCU star also starred in Ida Red and Body Brokers, two of Swab’s prior productions.
Grillo, Dane, Knapp, and Bryant are only a part of Little Dixie’s remarkable cast, which also includes Mercedes Mason from NCIS: Los Angeles, Peter Greene from The Mask, Thomas Dekker from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Maurice Compte (Narcos). Swab and Jeremy M.
Rosen co-produced the movie, and Robert Ogden Barnum, Ali Jazayeri, and Viviana Zarragoitia served as executive producers.
On February 3, 2023, Little Dixie will be accessible digitally and on demand.
