Tom Cruise, returned to the character of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. 2022 was a fantastic year to visit the movies. 2022 served as a timely reminder to moviegoers that movie theatres will continue to exist after general audiences wondered over the previous several years whether the theatrical format would endure due to the pandemic.

The second movie to gross $1 billion during the epidemic (after Spider-Man: No Way Home) demonstrated once more how superior the theatre experience is. That is largely due to the labour of love put out by the movie’s star.

To close the year on a high note, Cruise gave a magnificent stunt hundreds of feet in the air as a gift to Top Gun fans.

While filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Parts One and Two in South Africa over the weekend, Cruise posted a thank-you video to Top Gun’s social media accounts.

Cruise thanked all of his supporters for supporting the much anticipated Top Gun sequel while he was secured to the side of an aircraft. But because they need to grab a shot for Dead Reckoning, M:I director Christopher McQuarrie, who also produced and co-wrote Maverick, interrupts the movie star. So, in true Tom Cruise form, he leaped from the helicopter and continued his speech as he fell through the air.

Ironically, he ended the message by saying, “We’ll see you at the movies,” before wishing all of his supporters a “safe” and joyful holiday. The actor then stops being followed by the camera as we see him shrivel up and drop to the water below in free fall.

One of the first films to be impacted by the pandemic was Top Gun: Maverick. Due to the terrible situation of the world, it was initially scheduled to release in 2020 but was repeatedly postponed. Maverick, like many other movies, easily could have succumbed to streaming.

Cruise, though, was one of the few individuals at the time who was dedicated to a conventional theatrical release. That had a significant payoff. Top Gun was undoubtedly one of the greatest moviegoing experiences in history, earning $1.5 billion globally at the box office.

With an emotionally resonant narrative about heritage and significance and with the help of effective practical effects, it outperformed the original movie.

Maverick was the 2022 must-see event, especially in IMAX. As a result, it has already received recognition on numerous year-end “best pictures” lists. Even the National Board of Review voted Maverick the year’s top movie.

Another absurd example of how dedicated Cruise was and still is to the theatrical experience is this “Thank You” video. He could have just shown his gratitude to everyone while sitting comfortably in his own home and on actual ground, but he’s the best showman in the world.

There is no better way to express gratitude to followers than by teasing upcoming content. With the last teaser trailer showing him plunge off a cliff on a motorcycle before free-falling to the rocky canyon below, the upcoming M:I movie is anticipated to be Cruise’s greatest one to date. This video reveals that there will be other significant jumps in this grand two-part conclusion.
