Al Roker and Deborah Roberts, a seasoned ABC broadcaster, appear to have joined the Tesla mania and purchased one of the cutting-edge electric vehicles, but they could be regretting it now.

On the streets of New York, a weatherman and a newswoman are engaged in full-scale combat with their Model X.

Roker, who has revealed a number of recent health issues on the “Today” show, was rushed to the hospital in November, leaving his Emmy-winning journalist wife to follow in their car.

However, it seemed as though the Tesla’s doors wouldn’t operate, requiring Roberts to make an attempt at breaking into it in order to get her cell phone and then take a taxi to the hospital.

At the time, a source claimed, “His wife Deborah was obviously very angry.” She was attempting to break a window since she had left her phone and other things inside their malfunctioning Tesla that wouldn’t unlock.

It appears that the couple missed their old internal combustion engine over the weekend.

On Sunday morning, Roker and Roberts joined friends for brunch at the trendy establishment Marks on Madison. (At a nearby table, former CNN president Jeff Zucker, a fellow “Today” veteran, was having a good time).

However, when Roker and Roberts paid up and proceeded to get inside their cute little Nintendo-on-wheels, one of the car’s distinctive gull-wing doors reportedly refused to close, according to our horribly amused source.

A mimosa-sipping insider recalled that Al was “sitting in the car trying everything he could think of to get the door to close.”

The “Today” host, according to the restaurant, appeared to make a call before forcing the door shut (which, the source cautioned, “may not be great for a car with automatic doors”). Eventually, the door was fixed, the source said.

According to a person close to Roker, a sensor was being blocked with a piece of cardboard. Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time we’ve mentioned the pair being in trouble with their car. Sources told us in 2019 that when apple-picking in Massachusetts, they got their Jaguar stuck in a hole and had to have it hauled out.
