Dennis Quaid to star in ‘Bass Reeves,’ a spin-off of the hit show ‘Yellowstone’

• For his entrance into the Yellowstone cosmos, Dennis Quaid is polishing up his spurs.
• In the upcoming spin-off 1883: The Bass Reeves Story, which is now filming in his home state of Texas.
•  The 68-year-old actor and native Texan will play Deputy U.S. Marshall Sherrill Lynn.

Dennis Quaid, a two-time Emmy nominee, portrays Bass Reeves.. Quaid discussed the significance of Oyelowo’s character, who is based on one of the most well-known U.S. deputy marshals of the Old West who passed away in 1907 at the age of 72, while announcing his casting through Instagram on Friday.

Reeves was regarded as the greatest frontiersman in American history and is thought to have served as the model for “The Lone Ranger,” according to Quaid. He served as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory during the period following Reconstruction.

Quaid recently appeared on television in the 2019 Netflix series Merry Happy Whatever. He was nominated for an Emmy in 2010 for his performance as former president Bill Clinton in HBO’s

Following other Yellowstone spin-offs from Sheridan, Bass Reeves is the latest.

The drama at the Montana ranch of the Dutton family is the focus of the charter series, which just won Kevin Costner a Golden Globe for best drama actor. It debuted on Paramount Network in 2018.

In the first spin-off, 1883, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill portrayed the Duttons’ great-grandparents James and Margaret as they migrated from Texas to Montana in quest of a better life.

The Oyelowo series will now center on the early years of his character’s slavery.

In an interview with Deadline, Oyelowo expressed his eagerness to be a part of the series and collaborate with Sheridan, adding, “The truth is that he is among the world’s top storytellers. He is one of those rare guys—and I have worked with a handful of them—who can actually accomplish that. My entire argument is that we need to create a story that is both worthy of that history and worthy of a global audience. It is a major event.”

Added he, “It is absolutely a major deal for me. Particularly considering that both times I tried to publish it, the entire industry rejected the notion of the narrative being presented.”

No release date has been set for 1883: The Bass Reeves Story.
