Farhan Akhtar stayed away from award ceremony for DCH

Almost everyone concurs that Farhan Akhtar is a natural performer on stage. His live performances—his band Farhan Live recently celebrated ten years since its founding—serve as evidence of this. He consistently makes people laugh, even when hosting award presentations.

So it comes as a surprise when he says that he has improved greatly in terms of public speaking. “I didn’t feel at ease speaking on stage. Going down and performing music is easy for me since I know what to do. It’s still simple if I talk to you about that because we are already doing that. However, if someone tells me to speak to the audience for 25 minutes on stage, a part of me will always question why they are interested in what I have to say. What will I do — provide a PPT presentation? I get scared by that stuff,” the 49-year-old chuckles.

However, unfortunately, his line of work compels him to speak to people constantly. Then Akhtar says, “I’m ready for it. Because the character permits it, when you play a role, you let your guard down. It’s an odd psychological event that takes place. When I am a character, it is simpler. You should do more of whatever makes you anxious to calm yourself down.

He uses award show hosting as an illustration. “It helped me overcome it gradually but surely. But when I consider the years of Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya, I realize that DCH garnered some recognition. I even chose not to go to some performances out of fear of having to speak up. So I didn’t go!” the actor declares with honesty.
