According to the Daily Mail, a staff member at the Bowery Hotel on Manhattan’s Lower East Side reportedly saw Schultz, 39, bringing a weapon into a public lavatory on the ground level on Wednesday night and alerted the police.

A day later, according to police, they arrived and knocked on Schultz’s door. He apparently told authorities that he owned two.45 calibre firearms, but when they inquired as to whether they were still in his possession, he reportedly said he had no idea. According to the Daily Mail, a court authorised police to search his room and said they discovered two loaded pistols, a Sig Sauer and a Smith & Wesson.

Whether Schultz had a licence to own firearms for the guns is the subject of varying media reporting. According to ET Canada, Schultz had one, contrary to what the Daily Mail claimed.

A comment from Schultz’s representatives has not yet been given, according to PEOPLE.

According to reports, the singer of “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” briefly left the 9th precinct station house on Friday to pick up medication from Bellevue Hospital before coming back a few hours later.

The band achieved both commercial and critical success as their 2015 studio album Tell Me I’m Pretty won the Grammy for best rock album and their sophomore album Thank You Happy Birthday debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. They also received a second Grammy for Social Cues, their 2019 album, for best rock album.

On August 2, the band is slated to play in Toronto, Canada, and two days later, in Quebec, Canada, at the Festivent. The impact of Schultz’s arrest on these tour dates is not yet clear.
