James Gunn responds to criticism of DC Studios’ restructuring
James Gunn and Peter Safran are the new heads of DC Comics...
James Gunn’s upcoming DCU strategy is called “Nightmare.”
James Gunn, 56, responded to rumours that Euphoria star Jacob Elordi will play the Man of Steel in his upcoming big-screen incarnation after taking over as DC Studios co-CEO with producer Peter Safran in October.
After a fan photo-shopped the Australian actor’s visage onto the cape-wearing superhero on Friday, he responded with the comment, “My opinions are no one has been cast as Superman yet.”
“Casting, as is almost always the case with me, will happen after the script is finished or close to finished, and it isn’t,” Gunn continued. “We’ll announce a few things in not too long, but the casting of Superman won’t be one of them.”
The role was previously portrayed in the DCEU by Henry Cavill, but he announced last month after a meeting with Gunn and Safran that he’s not returning to the role, just two months after telling fans he’d don the cape once again after a cameo as the DC Comics superhero in Black Adam.

Everyone, it is awful news, wrote 39-year-old Cavill. After all, I will not be coming back as Superman.
Soon later, Gunn revealed that a new superhero is being created by the studio. Henry Cavill will not be playing Superman in the first few episodes because the focus of the tale will be on an earlier period of the character’s existence, he announced on Twitter.
Superman (also known as Clark Kent) made his début in the inaugural issue of Action Comics from June 1938. Kal-El, a fictitious superhero who was born on the destroyed planet Krypton, crash-landed on Earth, where he was raised as Clark Kent before going on to become the world’s most famous hero.
Originated onscreen by Kirk Alyn in the 1948 Superman film serial, the role has since been played by George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Tom Welling, Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin. Nicolas Cage was even cast in an unproduced film adaptation from Tim Burton.
