Penn Badgley 36, opened up about how his preterm birth still affects him while speaking on the most recent edition of Hypochondri Actor, the Hazy Mills podcast hosted by Sean Hayes and comedian and doctor Dr. Priyanka Wali.

Badgley acknowledged that he was “two months preterm” and said that because of his wife Domino Kirke’s work as a dula, he has “learned a lot about prenatal, postpartum stuff and understood how much that did influence me.”

He talked about his experiences. I spent the first few weeks of my life, or the first year of my life, in a NICU since my heart and lungs frequently stopped during the day.

The You actor then explained to Hayes and Wali that since resuscitation had previously been performed “by doctors for the first couple of weeks” of his birth, his mother had to learn “how to resuscitate me, like viscerally.”

He continued, “[She had to do it] several times a day because my heart and lungs would stop. And I was viewing a monitor that would repeatedly beep at a high volume.

When he was released from the NICU, Badgley stated, “I was on the way home from the hospital, when my mother had to resuscitate me for the first time.” “The physicians basically said, like, “This will happen instantly, so you are going to have to [assist him],” and [it lasted] until around one,” the patient continued.

By the time I was one, Badgley believes, things had advanced to the point where “my cousins will tell stories where… where I would be in the back seat, you know, in a car seat hooked up to the monitor, and it would go off, and all anybody had to do was just touch me,” she said. Therefore, a simple human touch could awaken me.

Then, Badgley stated that although he has not “talked to my mum about the particulars in a while,” it “would be intriguing” because of how it has affected him emotionally and how it has made him incredibly sensitive to touch.
