Prince William was intoxicated on rum to soothe his anxiety just hours before his wedding, according to a passage from Spare.

After 10 years of on/off dating, William and Kate married on April 29, 2011, in Westminster Abbey, with Prince Harry standing by his brother’s side.

Harry then wrote about how his brother did not appear to have rested before going to fetch him up the next morning.

When the car started moving, Harry broke the silence to tell his brother he “smelled like alcohol”- the “aftermath of the rum from the night before,” he reasoned.

He described opening the window slightly, covering his nose, and mockingly offering William mints.
