Relationship expert criticizes Harry for ‘pointing the finger’
Harry has stated that he wishes to reconcile with his family, but his actions are making that much more difficult.
There are some prerequisites that must be met before anyone can begin therapy in the midst of a family fallout. The first is that everybody’s story must be heard, that each person says,“I’m ready to listen to their side, and I’d like them to listen to mine”
But by publishing this book, knowing that the Royal Family will not be able to return in the same way, Harry demonstrates a self-centered side to him, as if he believes his story is more important than theirs.
The other premise is that each side must accept responsibility for their role in causing the rift, because none of these things are one-sided; they are always a two-way or three-way street. So they must be able to say,, “I’m not going to play the blame game, I hold my hands up and say I’m also part of these difficulties.”
Again, Harry has effectively shut the door on that because he has been pointing fingers while denying any responsibility.
I believe he desires everything. He wants to tell his story and make money from it, as well as reconcile with his family, but on his terms. The issue is that you can never heal a family schism on one person’s terms.
If I had been advising Harry, I would have told him that writing this book was a bad idea.
