Mod Sun, Avril Lavigne’s former fiancé, was apparently taken by surprise when he learned of their breakup.

Only days after musician Mod Sun embarked on a tour, the pair announced their separation earlier this week.

However, a spokesman for him has stated that the singer didn’t appear to have been aware of a change in their relationship status.

A spokesperson for Avril, 38, confirmed the split news to New York Post column PageSix but a representative for 35-year-old Mod Sun, born Derek Smith, told the publication: “They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour so if anything has changed that’s news to him.”

The representative stated that Mod Sun has no intentions to postpone any of the dates on his tour, which began on Sunday, February 23, in Sacremento, California, and will continue through April in cities across the US and Canada.

They said: “The show will happen tonight and tomorrow and for the rest of the tour.”

On Tuesday (21.02.23), it was announced that Avril and Mod had split up. A source told PEOPLE that the couple’s relationship had broken down.

An insider told the outlet: “Avril and Mod Sun have been on and off for the past two months, but are no longer together as a couple… there was absolutely no third party involved in the split.”

They began dating in 2021, got engaged in March 2022 while travelling to Paris, and were last spotted together earlier this month at a pre-Grammys event in Los Angeles.
