Cardi B honors Paco Rabanne with silver metal at Grammys 2023

The 30-year-old rapper Cardi B attended the 2023 Grammy Awards to present Kendrick Lamar with the prize for best rap album while paying homage to the late French and Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne in a futuristic silver metallic gown and matching over-the-face hood.

She showed off her style in a silver metallic top and long skirt from the designer’s Spring Summer 2021 collection, both of which were cleverly constructed from triangular parts. She matched the gorgeous, skin-baring outfit with a hood that matched, both from the Fall Winter 2020 collection.

The metal mesh hood, which covered her eyes and dangled down close to her ears, gave the “WAP” hitmaker the appearance of a space era soldier.

Although Rabanne, who retired in 1999, did not create the Tin Man-chic aesthetic, Julien Dossena, the current Paco Rabanne creative director, did, and it was still a lovely way to honor the late designer’s collection.

Rabanne, who designed comparable Space Age metal mesh styles for celebrities including Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, and Jane Fonda, died earlier this month at the age of 88.

With stars like Harry Styles, Beyoncé, Viola Davis, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, and more donning glistening ensembles for the musical awards presentation, it appears that metallic sparkles were the night’s dominant aesthetic.

Regarding the sequin fringe jumpsuit Harry Styles wore to perform “As It Was,” a fan joked on Twitter, “See cardi’s doing what harry THOUGHT he was doing with the shimmering silver.”

Alright, Cardi! This is the silver way! Another supporter cheered.
