Dangal is surpassed by Pathaan as the highest-grossing Hindi movie

• Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan has overtaken Aamir Khan’s Dangal.
• As the highest grossing film of all time, released in Hindi.
• The film has collected ₹729 crore worldwide, beating its predecessor’s collection of Dangal.

Aamir Khan had lost to Shah Rukh Khan in a critical blockbuster race. His Pathaan has surpassed Aamir Khan’s Dangal as the highest-grossing Hindi-language movie ever. In total, 729 crore rupees have been collected.
Despite this, Dangal’s total international earnings are still far in advance at 2000 crore, thanks to its wild success at the Chinese box office in 2017. Given that Dangal was also released in Mandarin in China and earned over 1200 crore, Pathaan has just edged out Dangal in the Hindi version of the competition.

The new numbers were tweeted by both the movie’s makers, Yash Raj Films, and film industry analyst Ramesh Bala. Pathaan has made a total of $88.92 million (or around 730 crore) worldwide, according to a brand-new poster with the most recent box office figures. It has brought in gross receipts of 453 crore in India and 276 crore abroad (gross).

“#Pathaan early estimates for 2nd Saturday All-India Nett is 22 Crs,” Ramesh Bala tweeted. Crossing #Dangal to become India’s all-time top straight Hindi film.

Analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted trends from bigger theatre chains on second Saturday. “#Pathaan at *national chains*… Week 2: Saturday… #PVR: 5 cr [Fri: 2.95 cr] #INOX: 3.75 cr [Fri: 2.16 cr] #Cinepolis 2 cr [Fri: 1.20 cr] Total: ₹ 10.75 cr [Fri: 6.31 cr] 70.36% growth at *national chains*.” He later updated the figure to ₹11.01 crore.

The espionage thriller Pathaan centers on Shah Rukh‘s titular Indian secret agent, who reappears to stop a terrorist attack on the Indian capital that is being plotted by Outfit X, a group of hired guns lead by Jim (John). Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana play important roles in the movie as well.

Shah Rukh’s first leading role on a major motion picture in four years is in Pathaan. In the spy world created by producer Aditya Chopra, it follows War, which starred Hrithik Roshan, and the previous three films Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Tiger Zinda Hai 2. Salman played the role of Tiger in Pathaan.
