Kelly McCreary will quit her role as Maggie on “Grey’s Anatomy
In the medical drama, Kelly McCreary plays Maggie Pierce, Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) half-sister. She is leaving the ABC program after nine years. On April 13, McCreary’s final episode as a regular on the show will air. But like Ellen Pompeo, who will leave the show on February 23, Kelly will make one last appearance later in the season.
McCreary remarked, “After nine seasons, I am bidding goodbye to Maggie Pierce and her Grey Sloan family,” thanking executive producer/showrunner Krista Vernoff, creator/creator of Grey’s Anatomy Shonda Rhimes, and ABC for the chance. It is a unique gift to spend nine years getting to know a character intimately while also inspiring a global audience.
“It has provided me an opportunity to interact with, learn from, and be inspired by innumerable talented artists both in front of and behind the camera.” “I truly enjoyed playing Maggie Pierce, and I am grateful at the end of this trip for every step of it. I look forward to this new phase and what is ahead.
Kelly McCreary is “a talented, nuanced, thoughtful, and caring writer’s dream come true,” according to Vernoff. “She and her exquisitely created Dr. Maggie Pierce” will be sorely missed.
Maggie was introduced in the second-to-last episode of Season 10 as meticulous and always in charge. In season 11, McCreary was made a regular on the show.
