Priyanka Chopra on the “social experiment” component of Citadel

The trailer for the new series Citadel by the Russo Brothers and Priyanka Chopra was released on Monday. The cast of Citadel, a spy-action series starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, was extensively discussed during a press conference last week. The program will also feature sister programs produced by Italian and Indian crews and shot in those countries. Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu will both appear in the Indian television series, which will be directed by Raj and DK.

At a press event for the show, Anthony Russo, an executive producer, said, “I mean, I think this show is like, capitalizing on two very exciting trends that we’ve seen in storytelling over the past several years, which is, we’ve all been developing a strong passion for narrative universes that have a sprawling expression to them, an interconnected years-long expression to them, where characters change and morph and move between different iterations. The capacity of non-English language films and television shows to spread to other cultures—typically the ones where the English language is more prevalent—has also increased recently.

Priyanka continued, “Seeing the success of, you know, subtitled work in English language areas was really amazing to me as someone who worked for a very long time in a non-English medium. But I believe that this show’s goal, which attracted me to it at first, is similar to the sociological experiment it purports to be. If, for example, the English-language flagship show is accompanied by Italian and Indian shows, the characters and plotlines may, you know, overlap and mix into one another.

Will that need a territory of people to watch another language, she asked. Similarly, are the spectators of the Italian program going to want to see the Hindi language show, when they have no relation in language? Yet, I find the mingling of cultures and the way entertainment today transcends boundaries and languages to be quite thrilling and fascinating. It’s all about telling stories. And as a partner, Amazon excels at that. And Jen’s ambition to work with AGBO is something that has never been seen before, in my opinion. It’s really cool.

On April 28, Citadel will be available.
