Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, a comedy spectacular that Rock hosted on Saturday, was Netflix’s first live-streamed event and, as he later revealed, had a tie to Will Smith, 54. Rock took time out of his routine to criticize Will and his marriage even though he claimed to have grown up adoring and “rooting for” him. “Rock remarked in his stand-up routine on Will Smith, “Will Smith practices selective outrage,” adding, “Anybody that actually knows knows I had nothing to do with that s—-. I had no “entanglements,” as they say.”

Rock was alluding to in July 2020 when Jada, 51, disclosed that she and singer August Alsina had a “entanglement” in the past while she and Will were on a sabbatical. “We have truly come to that new level of unconditional love,” she said at the time, explaining that she and Will were eventually able to mend their relationship.

The 1997 wedding was documented on the couple’s episode of Jada’s Red Table Talk programme. “We were all deceived. In the comedy show, Rock made the joke that everyone in the business had been duped. “None of us have ever been interviewed on television by the guy who duped us,” he added. No one of us. Why on earth would you do that?

After the “entanglement” announcement, Rock said that “everyone in the world” labelled Will a “bitch,” and he claimed to have tried to contact him about it but that Will had not answered. The comic continued by constantly referring to Will as a “bitch.” Then he joked, “Everyone. And, who did he hit? He knows he can beat me; I am an n—-. What bitch-ass s—- is that?”

After claiming that he “did nothing” to Will, the comedian brought up the 2016 “#OscarsSoWhite” uproar, when Jada boycotted the Academy Awards and urged Chris Rock not to host the ceremony. Will was not included in that year’s Concussion nominations. Rock mocked Jada in that year’s Oscars monologue by joking that she could not boycott anything.
