Pakistani actor Sheheryar Munawar has recently stirred a lively debate on social media with his candid remarks about the pressures men face in society. During a recent interview that has garnered a lot of attention, Sheheryar shed light on the emotional challenges and double standards imposed on Pakistani men from an early age.
In his interview, Sheheryar talked about how Pakistani men are often taught not to cry or show pain, instilling a belief that expressing emotions is a weakness. He argued that this conditioning leads to emotional detachment and can sometimes result in harmful behavior towards their partners. “When men are told not to feel pain or cry, they become very harsh, leading to domestic violence,” he said.
Sheheryar pointed out that this societal pressure starts in childhood, where boys are encouraged to be tough and resilient, even at the expense of their emotional well-being. This expectation continues into adulthood, where men’s emotional struggles are often dismissed, particularly by their spouses. He noted, “Wives tell their husbands that if they lose their job, they should just get back up and start another job.”
The actor also highlighted the heavy responsibilities placed on men, which prevent them from expressing their feelings and contribute to deep-seated emotional issues. “Men are burdened with many responsibilities and are not given the opportunity to express their emotions, causing deep-seated problems in their personalities,” he explained.
Furthermore, Sheheryar addressed the issue from another angle, acknowledging that there are women who also oppress men in various ways. “There are many women in our society who commit acts of oppression against men that we can’t even imagine,” he said.
His remarks have sparked a broad discussion online, with many people weighing in on the pressures faced by both men and women in Pakistani society. While some praised Sheheryar for bringing these issues to light, others argued that the struggles of women in a patriarchal society are often more severe.
