Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has taken decisive action against the individual responsible for spreading deepfake videos featuring her face. The controversy erupted when explicit AI-generated videos, superimposing Aamir’s face onto another person’s body, went viral on social media. Initially uncertain about her involvement, Aamir confirmed the videos were deepfakes and not her actual content.
Addressing the issue on Instagram, Aamir expressed concern over the dangers of AI misuse, stating, “This AI is extremely dangerous. Are there no laws to stop this?” She revealed that she had identified the user behind the deepfake videos, an Instagram account initially named “Anureet Sandhu” with over 22,000 followers. The account, which had over 100 posts featuring AI-generated content with her face, was later renamed to evade detection.
Aamir appealed to her followers for help in reporting the account, saying, “She has blocked me, but can you all report this account?” The account’s name was subsequently changed multiple times. Following her call to action, the videos were removed, and the account faced increased scrutiny.
The incident underscores the urgent need for stronger regulations on AI technology to prevent misuse and protect individuals from such invasive and misleading content.
