Moana 2 releases new music that offers a glimpse into the new adventure
Moana and Maui are back and ready to embark on new adventures in the sequel to the 2016 film. The makers of Moana 2 have released a preview of the new song “We’re Back,” showcasing the Disney star as she encourages and motivates her friends while diving into her role as a Wayfinder.
The Grammy Award-winning musicians Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow composed the music for the sequel. In the movie, Moana and Maui will embark on a new set of adventures across the seas to find Moana’s wayfinding ancestors.
Moana will surf through rough waters and navigate difficult paths to seek answers from her lineage. In the new preview released by Disney Studios, Moana states, “The ancestors called on me to reconnect our people across the ocean. It’s my job as Wayfinder to finish what has started. It will be harder than anything we have faced before.”
Adding the song “We’re Back” to Moana’s scenes perfectly captures the character’s spirit, symbolizing bravery. One of the song’s verses reveals, “Oh, finally, we’re back/to who we’re meant to be.”

The song preview also showcases the first look at Moana’s little sister, Simea. For the film’s cast, Auli‘i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson, who voices Moana and Maui, will be joined by Rachel House as Gramma Tala, Temuera Morrison as Chief Tui, and Nicole Scherzinger as Sina. New cast members Hualalai Chung, David Fane, and Rose Matafeo will join the team.
For the plot of the upcoming sequel, the official synopsis of Moana 2 reads, “Moana journeys to the far seas of Oceania after receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors.”
The first movie in the Moana franchise became one of the most successful animated films of all time, captivating audiences of all ages. Initially, the creators planned to develop the plot in a series format; however, post-pandemic challenges prompted them to convert it into a movie.
