Diljit Dosanjh’s concert leads to cleanup controversy at Delhi stadium
Singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert tour, Dil-Luminati, turned Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium into a lively venue, attracting around 35,000 fans each day. However, the excitement quickly faded as athletes expressed their disappointment over the stadium’s condition after the event.
Former youth Asian gold medalist Beant Singh took to Instagram to share his frustration about the aftermath of the concert, posting images that showed the stadium covered in trash. He highlighted the poor state of the track and questioned the environment for athletes in India, asking why anyone would pursue sports under such conditions.
In his video, Singh pointed out that the venue, intended for athletic training, had been turned into a party space, which led to broken equipment and other damages. He stated, “Ye aukat hai India me sports ki, sportsperson ki aur stadium ki” (This is the status of sports, sportspersons, and stadiums in India).
The aftermath included littered alcohol bottles and spoiled food on the track, with vehicles driving over the damaged surface. In response, the Sports Authority of India reached out to concert-goers, stressing that the stadium should be returned in the same condition it was provided.
With approximately 70,000 attendees over two days, a thorough cleanup is scheduled to be completed by October 29, 2024, to restore the stadium for its original purpose.
