Asad Siddiqui voices concern over biased casting in showbiz industry

Actor Asad Siddiqui recently voiced concerns about the entertainment industry’s “biased casting practices,” highlighting issues of favoritism and superficial standards over talent.

Speaking on Ushna Shah’s talk show, Siddiqui candidly stated, “Selections are often based on connections and appearance rather than talent.” He criticized the prioritization of lighter skin tones and personal connections, calling it “unfair and apparent on screen.” To address these challenges, he advocated for a stronger audition process and shared his aspiration to promote equitable opportunities through his upcoming production ventures.

Siddiqui also discussed how he has distanced himself from certain industry circles, explaining, “Sweet words are shared in person but turn into criticism behind backs.”

On a lighter note, during his appearance on Faysal Quraishi’s podcast, Siddiqui opened up about his love story with wife Zara Noor Abbas. He recalled first hearing about Zara through her aunt, Bushra Ansari, saying, “I had never seen her or a picture of her, but Bushra Apa would mention her.” Years later, by coincidence, they met and became friends, often spending time with mutual friends like Sajal Aly and Yasir Hussain.

Reflecting on fatherhood after welcoming their daughter, Noor e Jahan, in March, Siddiqui shared, “I’ll wake up in the middle of the night and see Zara already awake, walking around or feeding the baby. I’m always shocked by how a mother’s life is never her own after a baby.” His heartfelt words underscore his admiration for Zara’s dedication as a mother.
