The family of Liam Payne, former One Direction star, is reportedly taking legal action following his death at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16.
According to Page Six, Payne’s family may bring private criminal charges against individuals believed to have contributed to his death.
Lawyers representing the Payne family, including Richard Bray, have engaged local legal counsel in Argentina, signifying the family’s intent to be plaintiffs in any criminal proceedings. This development comes amidst an ongoing investigation and the release of troubling photos from Payne’s final moments.
Local prosecutors have ruled out self-harm or external intervention in Payne’s injuries. However, they have charged two hotel employees with allegedly providing drugs and identified a friend as a person of interest for failing to assist. “It appears clear to me that Liam was trying to get back downstairs, he did not want to go in his room,” a source told Page Six.
The photos suggest hotel staff manhandled Payne and confined him to his room shortly before his fall. Criminal lawyer Nicolas Durrieu noted, “If this is true, hotel staff may face charges of ‘abandonment of a person’… likely considered ‘aggravated’ because a person died.”
Payne’s family is resolute in seeking justice, determined to uncover the truth behind the tragic loss of the 31-year-old singer.
