The highly anticipated Korean series Squid Game, directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, has been confirmed for a second season.

Recently, rumors surfaced suggesting that renowned Hollywood director David Fincher, known for films like Gone Girl and Fight Club, might be planning a remake of the series. Addressing these speculations, Hwang asserted, “It’s still mine,” emphasizing his ownership of the original work.

In a statement to Deadline, the 53-year-old director and producer remarked, “I saw that article in Deadline, but I don’t think it’s official yet, so I cannot tell much about that.”

While he expressed admiration for Fincher’s talent, Hwang made it clear that he respects him and would be interested in watching a remake. He said, “I respect David Fincher. I love his work, so if he does make a remake of Squid Game of his own, as a fan I will watch it. I think he will make a great Squid Game. It’s still mine!”

During a candid interview, Hwang revealed that he did not create Squid Game to impart a moral lesson but rather to sell the show, as he believes that profit-driven motives are common in today’s entertainment landscape. His comments have reassured fans, who can look forward to season 2, although Hwang cautioned that it might take some time for the new episodes to be released.
