Amna Malik criticizes unrealistic marriage expectations by groom mothers
Pakistani actress and TV host Amna Malik has sparked a conversation about the societal pressures surrounding marriage and the unrealistic expectations many families hold when finding a daughter-in-law.
In a recent podcast interview, Malik addressed the challenges faced during the matchmaking process, particularly the role of mothers in perpetuating these ideals. She highlighted that many mothers of prospective grooms prioritize superficial traits, such as being “slim, tall, and fair-skinned.”
“These qualities cannot exist in one person,” Malik remarked, questioning whether a woman would be rejected if she gained weight after marriage.
She also touched on a growing trend of young women being granted significant freedom before marriage, suggesting that it might hinder their ability to adjust to their new homes post-marriage. Her comments have been met with mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing with her perspective on marriage expectations but others challenging her stance on women’s independence.
Malik further criticized intrusive behaviors, noting that mothers often inquire about a prospective bride’s past, particularly if she has studied abroad. “They ask whether she was involved with any men while pursuing her degree,” Malik stated.
The actress emphasized the need for both men and women to engage in more meaningful conversations before committing to marriage, reflecting the changing dynamics in relationships.
