Jennifer Lopez is opening up about the complexities of motherhood and how they influenced her portrayal of Judy Robles in her new film Unstoppable. The movie, inspired by the true story of champion wrestler Anthony Robles, highlights the profound bond between Anthony and his mother.
In an interview with British Vogue, Lopez shared how personal her role felt, stating, “As a mom, you always want to put your best foot forward for your kids, to lift them up — but that doesn’t stop you from being a human being who struggles.”
She reflected on the duality of motherhood, balancing joyous moments with private challenges. “What made it exciting as an actor for me to play is, you know, kind of talking to Anthony and your kids and them saying, you know, like, my mom was the best mom. She’s always happy and always making everything fun and joyful and all of that. And then talking to you and saying, you know, this was really hard,” Lopez explained.
As a mother of twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony, and co-parent to Ben Affleck’s children, Violet, Finn, and Seraphina, Lopez emphasized how her real-life experiences informed her understanding of Judy Robles’ character. Lopez had said in an interview, reflecting on her journey as a single parent, “Love and effort are more than enough to make a difference.”
Although Unstoppable grossed just $3,900 during its UK opening, insiders revealed the limited release was a strategic move to position the film for awards season. The film, co-produced by Ben Affleck, debuts on Amazon Prime Video on January 16th.
