Oscars 2025: Why did Jonathan Bailey skip Hollywood’s biggest night?
The Oscars 2025 gathered a star-studded lineup of Hollywood’s biggest names. However, Jonathan Bailey was notably absent from the event. His film “Wicked” had earned nominations in 10 categories at the Academy Awards, making his absence even more intriguing.
Jeff Goldblum spoke to the media and explained why his co-star from the highly acclaimed musical was absent on the grand night.
“He’s on stage right now in England, doing Richard II,” the actor from Thor: Ragnarok mentioned. Further talking about his skills, Goldblum added that Bailey happens to be a master of acting and an “eighth-degree black belt actor.”

Jonathan Bailey will next star alongside Scarlett Johansson in the highly anticipated “Jurassic World Rebirth”.
During the March 2 award ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Jeff Goldblum stated, “I’ll be the first person in line to buy tickets. I’ll see it many times,” while also praising the film’s all-star lineup.
Wicked: Part One received 10 nominations at the 97th Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress, Costume Design, and several others.
Jonathan Bailey was also absent from the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards due to his role in Richard II at the time. Interestingly, he received nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for “Wicked”, Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for “Wicked”, and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for “Bridgerton”.
The filmmakers will release Jurassic World Rebirth in June 2025.
