Sonu Sood says Bollywood needs to oil their gears
When it comes to the theatrical release of their films, South Indian films can pose a serious threat to Bollywood, according to actor Sonu Sood. Sonu, who has experience in both fields, asserted that competition between them can produce quality films. It’s a healthy competition, he claims.
Sonu made his acting debut in the supporting role of the 1999 Tamil film Kallazhagar. His performance in Yuva helped him become well-known in Bollywood, and he then appeared in movies like Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Jodha Akbar, Ek Vivah Aisa Bhi, and Dabangg, to name a few. Sonu was most recently spotted in the movie office dud Samrat Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar.
Speaking about the ongoing conflict between the South and Bollywood industries since the outbreak, Sonu said, “Bollywood has been making quite a number of good films, but one must also not forget the fact that the number of films south make is huge. It is at least five times more than Bollywood. So, content coming from there is much more than what we are making. Thus, I feel that it makes for a good healthy competition and it keeps you on your toes to make good movies.”
The actor is of the opinion that South Asian filmmakers have consistently aimed to draw audiences to the theatres with their ostentatious productions. He continued, “They need to, I mean everyone needs to… as I think, when you have competition… that’s the time you will excel.”
Sonu also expressed his happiness that South Asian films are now receiving more attention. His next appearance will be in the upcoming Tamil movie Thamilarasan. Additionally, he is set to star in the action-thriller Fateh, directed by Abhinandan Gupta, in Bollywood.
