Abhishek Bachchan on the debate between movies and OTT:
Soon, Abhishek Bachchan will play the lead role in the second season of the web series Breath: Into the Shadows. He will play the part of Dr Avinash Sabharwal in the crime thriller. Even though he did his best in the movie, he spoke out about what he thinks about content on Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms vs. content for theatres.
The 46-year-old actor also said that streaming services have given Indian stories a chance to shine on a global stage.
“When OTT platforms came into being, everybody was accessible to anybody at the push of a button. We have a larger audience now and better reach. You can watch shows in every language – be in Indian or foreign,” Bachchan was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency.
“There is a huge appetite for Indian storytelling telling. Good content will always work no matter the medium… Fortunately, digital platforms do not put out numbers. It keeps the focus on content. We have become far too obsessed about collections and money as opposed to the content,” Bachchan said at an event in Mumbai, as reported by the media.
Mayank Sharma is in charge of the web series, which also stars Amit Sadh, Naveen Kasturia, and Saiyami Kher.
Abhishek Bachchan talks about his experience working on Season 2 of Breath: Into the Shadows. He talked more about how the series made him feel.
He told the media, “It’s a very difficult genre to execute because thriller is a rarity. For me, it was the character that drew me to the project. I loved Mayank’s writing… That is integral to a good thriller. It wasn’t superficial at all. If you are not emotionally invested, it goes to waste. Mayank has done a great job.”
On November 9, 2022, Breathe: Into the Shadows, 2 will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
