Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, recently discussed the controversy surrounding the song Besharam Rang by Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Many people opposed to the song from their movie Pathaan because they claimed it offended their religious sensibilities. In response, the CM made the point that a film director should take into consideration any scenes that can cause controversy when creating a movie.

After the song “Besharam Rang” was released, Pathaan became embroiled in controversy. Many people criticised it because it showed Shah Rukh and Deepika having a romance in Spain and because of Deepika’s attire, which included her saffron bikini. This sparked widespread protests across the nation as well as a social media boycott wave.

When asked about the uproar, CM Yogi said, “The film director should also take into consideration while making a film that it should not have scenes which could give rise to controversy or hurt public sentiments.” “Any artist, literator or anyone with accomplishments should be respected. Uttar Pradesh has also made a policy for films and many films are being made in the state,” eh  continued.

Several BJP leaders opposed the release of Pathaan, including Ram Kadam and Narottam Mishra. Additionally, it was seen that right-wing organisations were warning people against seeing the movie in public places. Later, PM Narendra Modi warned party members to refrain from making “unnecessary comments” about movies.

Due to protests by local political organisations on the day of the film’s premiere, many morning showings of the movie were even cancelled in Indore theatres. Nevertheless, despite all the odds, Pathaan had a huge box office triumph. Since its January 25 release, it has amassed a domestic box office revenue of 429,9 crore. According to the makers, Yash Raj Films, the movie has so far made $832.20 crore globally.

Earlier, during a press conference, Shah Rukh had said, “When it comes to hurting feelings, “Sabka maksad ek hi hota hai (Everyone has one motive). We should spread happiness, brotherhood, love, kindness, even when I’m playing a bad guy like [in] Darr. Even if I’m playing a Baazigar, even if John is being bad in a film. None of us are bad. We are all playing characters to make you happy. If we say things in the film, none of them are meant to hurt any sentiment or anybody. It is just entertainment.”

He also said “We love each other, we joke with each other. We have fun with each other. Fun, entertainment should be left at that. Don’t take it more seriously. We all are one. All of us are loving each other and trying to make that love spread just to tell you in a very simple manner… this is Deepika Padukone, yeh Amar hain. Main Shah Rukh Khan hoon, main Akbar hoon. Yeh John hain, yeh Anthony hain. And this is what makes cinema,”.
