On Saturday, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri responded on Twitter to reports that Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma had just visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain. The Kashmir Files director spoke up after Kangana Ranaut lauded the couple and discussed how people evolve through time. Virat’s previous remark on “prayers and worship” was the subject of his tweet.

Vivek Agnihotri commented on a video he shared of Virat and Anushka leaving the temple, writing, “I remember a lot of tweet-diggers had trolled a young Virat Kohli when he had said jokingly ‘do I look like pooja paath types’. People change. And it’s a great thing. Because change is another name of a meaningful life.”

In his remark, Vivek alluded to the criticism Virat endured seven years prior. When under duress, does Virat perform ‘pooja-paath’ (prayer), as a reporter posed the question during a T20 World Cup news conference.“Do I look the pooja-path types? (Do I look like I do prayers and worship)?” It sent everyone into a tailspin.

Vivek published a video that has now become very popular on social media. Together with other worshippers, it depicts Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma inside the shrine. On Saturday morning, the day after the third Test match between India and Australia in Indore, they paid a visit to the temple. Anushka was cited by news agency ANI as stating, “We came here to offer prayers and had a good darshan at Mahakaleshwar Temple.”

Anushka and Virat were praised for setting a “wonderful example” in an Instagram Story posted by Kangana earlier in the day. She penned, “Such a good example this power couple is setting, not only it brings them the blessings of Mahakaal (Lord Shiva), but also in some way it glorifies the Dharma and a civilisation, which is built on Sanatana. Also on micro level this increases tourism in the temple/state and over all helps the nation with its self-esteem and economy both.”
